The song is about coming to grips with yourself to the point of saying I'm sorry. I'm sorry for the abuse and now it's time for a change. In many ways finding peace within can come with just a drive on a highway or maybe quiet time in a room to gather your thoughts. And yes the ending is a march of death that ends all of the pain but it's really up to you on how your pain ends afterwards. Is it a new you or does it become the death of you.
