We made new friends and fans and what a treat to hear great music from Taylor Davis Band and Chicken Fist was just a blast to witness their performances. Gonzales, Texas was treated with a wide range of styles of music with a very high level of professioanlism from all four bands. I want to thank Roger, owner of Roger's at The Square and the people of Gozales, Texas for your support and love. All I can say is Ben you threw a massive show lineup like you always do and no left disappointed.

The revised from the last title blog post "Last 24 Hours".. As always I find myself writing an idea or experience without proof reading just so I have the nucleus of what makes my story. No matter how much lack of asleep, out of focus due to exhaustion I am, the sooner I write it, the closer to the experience it is. And Yes! Sometimes writing away I miss those punctuations and I loose that rhythmic sentencing flow and end up sounding like a dumbass. Yeah... But that's for you to see sometimes but to never share...lol

The whole episode what I call now "Fever Fried Brains" began this past Monday, 2-11-08 at 10:48pm but I began to feel sick and know of the virus presence before on Thursday night after rehearsal on the 7th of Feb. Downhill from then on which leads to my darkest hours on Monday night. I already have a song idea for it which will be more of capturing an experience of state of mind. Because trust me I never want to be there ever again. Will it be an instrumental?? More than likely!

Fever Fried Brains...

The past three nights was total misery... This year's flu hit me with a vengeance like no other. Maybe because I'm older or maybe it was this years flu... Last night around 10:00pm I woke up with a unbearable fever and a sense of anxiety like no other. On a slight panic I set up a hot to warm bath to bring my temp down and while the feeling of relief was instant. I notice that my concentration was very off… While in the tub I would find myself starring at any anything and then my mind would wander and try and make a connection on things so irrelevant to each other... Very strange and trust me no illegal drugs were taken...Maybe that was my bad in the first place...LOL..:D.. Just Kidding!.. Anyways... After the bath the fever was still there but just not as intense. Afraid of going back to sleep because I feared the fever would intensify as I slept. I pace myself back and forth very slowly and my mind state was in total shock on how bad I felt. Then I would sit down and stare at the ceiling for long periods of time until point of exhaustion and dosing off by that state I just wanted to crash out in bed. I would sleep for about three hours and then a gagging cough would wake me up and I'd run to the toilet and release the phlegm and then do the whole process, pacing, sitting procedure thing again three different time periods between 12:00 mid-night to 5:30am and right around 7:00am. I woke up with no fever and my shirt was wet from sweat and the relief that the fever was some what broken. During the morning and through out the day quality of rest was so much better. But that lingering off and on fever plus the tightness of my chest with congestion, cough with phlegm, made me decide around 5:00pm. F*&K IT!! I'm NOT going through this shit again and off to the Texas-Med-Clinic. The doctor diagnoses: the flue virus, strip throat, inflamed tonsils and a respiratory infection. I received my medication and of course five hours later I'm here writing this experience to you… I'm feeing almost 100% but I won't celebrate to health or claim victory until I finish all my meds and that will be in 7-10 days. Until then I'll sound like a freaking wino clearing my throat and lunging out the noogies non-stop...LOL (yeah I'm laughing now but wasn't 24 hours ago coming from Scare Shitless, Shit Creek Town, State of Euphoria)...Fever Fried Brains is their specialty and my brain was almost in the fryer... Kinda makes a good B-movie... Anyways, stay healthy and watch for that flu bug because this year it packs a very hard punch like no-other I've ever experience. ~JCM

Larry Rimes

Lost our percussionist Larry Rimes and his brother Tom Rimes (sax) this past Wednesday and here's the scoop as to why I'm pissed.

We had our rehearsals with Tom and I really enjoyed his playing very much so that I asked if he wanted to be in the band on the spot. Promising new sounds with just two rehearsals, it was a great way to start off the new year. We all left on a happy note and very much antispated our next rehearsal day. Well... Wednesday came and went and the Rimes brothers were a no show. I was consern it was not like Larry not call and plus his cell remained busy up until the next day Thursday. I then left a message to Larry early Thursday morning when Miggs, my bassplayer, gives me the news of them parting ways from the band around 3:00pm and I'm still not clear as to why. Miggs also mention that Larry tried calling me but my cell signal was weak and couldn't reach me. I then check my messages and missed calls and of course they were none... I then called and left a nice message like "Hey man everything is cool and I'm not mad, just give me a call and let me know what happen"


Well its now Sunday and I still haven't received a call. At his point I'm fucking angry... I don't like to be left in the dark and I at least earn the common courtsey after five years of playing together to receive a phone call. I don't run this band with an iron fist or intimidate my band of brothers. I respect and listen to everyones wishes just as they listen to mine. The last dumbass that left the band did the same thing and was made into an example of what not to do because its just not right... Well the lack of NOT having the balls reared its ugly head again. Larry always preached and campaige promised these long speeches of morale and loyality to one another... To me... Talk is cheap and I at least told it like it was with no surprises or bullshit. The struggles, the let downs, going up against the grain and the status quo of this town. I've always remain true and untouched because I do believe in our selves and actions will always speak louder than words. Well to me anyways... ~JCM

The Fender Squier '51

If I had to choose one solid body electric guitar as the "killer guitar value of the Y2K millennium" it would have to be the Squier '51. Originally street priced at $150 a few years back, it was hawked at $99/delivered during it's final swan song months just prior to being discontinued in March of 2007.

The virtues of this guitar are manyfold. A solid, one piece hard rock maple Telecaster style neck with hardwood truss rod "skunk stripe", that was clear satin finished. It sports a 9.5" fretboard radius and the typical .095" x .045" frets are neatly installed. The nut is white PVC plastic. The neck backshape is a modified "C", but with slight "shoulders" that add some chunk as opposed to a thinned "C" shape. The single action truss rod adjusts from the headstock - a blessing! The sealed tuners work quite well and the string trees are spaced correctly. The neck alone is worth the $99 price tag.

The solid basswood body is pure Strat shaped, with tummy and arm contours, and is typically of three or four piece construction and the pickup and control cavity routing is crisp and clean. It was offered in solid gloss black, vintage style sunburst or almost see-through blonde finishes. The large pickguard is a definite throwback to the original Fender '51 Precison bass guitar, and the chromed '51 Precision control plate is also part of the Squier '51. The top load bridge, as opposed to string through, appears in two or three versions and all work quite well. Top load bridges afford less string tension for any given string gauge and that enhances slinky string bending, or allows going up to a heavier gauge string.

The neck pickup is a Strat single coil with ceramic magnet, set on an angle, and the bridge pickup is an AlNiCo V magnet powered humbucker with dual slug pole pieces. The two controls are - a master 500k volume pot that's also a push-pull switch that will ground out one of the humbucker coils and make it into a single coil, and a three way rotary pickup switch. The jack is side mounted on a metal plate.

This guitar is a modder's dream, and many variations have already been accomplished by folks all over the world. The first things I typically change out are what I consider to be the guitar's weak points - the neck pickup and the nut. An AlNiCo magnet Strat single coil or ceramic Strat dual coil would be a simple drop-in mod and rid the guitar of the stock Strat ceramic pickup that sounds harsh and brittle to my ears. I'd change the soft PVC nut to one of bone or horn - most folks haven't the tools or know-how for nut changing but a precut nut of Tusq or GraphTec will be lots better in the long run than PVC. I'll install a master CTS 500K volume pot, Switchcraft short leaf spring pickup switch, Switchcraft jack, a good setup with 10's or 11's nickel roundwounds and I'm good to go. I might also swap out the tuners for a better quality set with less gear lash.

Gibson Leads Industry Fight Against Counterfeit Gibsons

Last year, 15-year-old Jonathan Jakubowski of Cary, North Carolina emptied out his savings account to purchase a Les Paul he found advertised in the local newspaper.

Of his decision to buy a Gibson, Jakubowski explains, “Eric Clapton is my main influence, and he played Les Pauls for a long time.”

Intending to purchase the advertised Les Paul Standard, Jonathan and his father visited the seller at his house, where they were persuaded instead to purchase a Wine Red Les Paul Custom, which the man said he’d bought off a traveling musician. Jonathan paid the man $1,000 for the guitar, but once he got it home, he could tell that something wasn’t right.

“I’d only played Les Pauls in the guitar shops, but something tipped me off, and I ended up going on the Internet to see what some typical signs are for a fake guitar,” Jakubowski says. “The first thing that struck me was that there were three screws in the truss rod cover instead of two.”

The staff at a local guitar shop confirmed Jakubowski’s suspicions—the guitar was a counterfeit. The high school sophomore alerted police, and following an investigation, the North Carolina man who’d acquired the guitar from a Chinese website and resold it to Jakubowski was arrested on two felony counts of criminal use of a counterfeit trademark.

This is but one of several reports that have prompted Gibson to lead an aggressive industry fight against the growing problem of counterfeit instruments being shipped from and sold by outlets and individuals in China.

“Protecting our consumers’ investments and the Gibson name is paramount,” says Ric Olsen, Director of Security and Loss Prevention at Gibson. “The ultimate goal here is that we want people to be happy Gibson customers. We’re trying to protect their investments by thwarting the counterfeit problem.”

The majority of the Gibson counterfeits appear to originate on e-commerce sites based out of major cities in China such as Beijing and Shanghai, though Olsen says, “That’s not to say we don’t have domestic problems, too. People will try to make up their own version of a Les Paul and start selling it, but the major battle is this China crisis.”

Other sources for counterfeit instruments are auction websites like eBay, which currently have hundreds of instruments resembling not just Gibson guitars, but also other brands. Some even feature trademarked headstocks and logos, but upon close inspection the guitars don’t feel or sound like a true Gibson, the serial numbers aren’t registered with Gibson, and most are not of good standard of quality overall.

Pricing can also be one of the easiest giveaways for a phony guitar. If a guitar is up for an online auction at a fraction of what it would typically cost, consumers are taking a great chance by purchasing it. Consumers should also be wary of sales that offer exorbitant shipping prices that exceed the price of the guitar.

Still, Olsen cautions that it can be difficult for a non-professional to distinguish between fake and real.

“There were victims who really had no idea what they were getting was fake,” Olsen says. “Until you actually plug the piece in or take the truss rod cover off and notice that there’s Teflon in there rather than the metal nut, it can be hard to tell to many consumers.”

With so many variables to take into account—the weight and finish of a guitar, the tone and playability, electronics and hardware, among other things, Gibson urges consumers to leave the detective work to its Customer Service department.

Though some guitars are especially deceptive, Gibson’s Customer Service Manager Jason Davidson says, “Usually we can spot a fake right away. They’re absolute garbage. They play terribly, they feel terrible. They are only made to look like a Gibson, and they do a poor job of that.”

To curtail the growing problem, Gibson advises all consumers to purchase Gibson instruments only from Gibson’s network of authorized dealers, found on the company’s website at www.gibson.com.

Consumers are also encouraged to contact Gibson’s Customer Service team, whether the guitar in question is new or used. “We have professionals that know these pieces inside and out,” Olsen says. “They know if a knob was the wrong year. They’ll know that a wire that was used was incorrect.” Consumers may even send Gibson Customer Service pictures of a guitar that they have questions about—full front and back photos and close-up shots of the front and back of the headstock are best.

“We will continue to do everything in our power to protect our consumers and the integrity of our family of brands,” says Henry Juszkiewicz, Chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar. “We hope that by issuing this warning our consumers will be armed with the right information to protect themselves and understand what they need to do to ensure that what they are purchasing is indeed an authentic Gibson instrument.”

How to Spot a Fake Gibson

To ensure the authenticity of a Gibson, consumers can check any of the references below when examining a guitar:

• Measure the guitar to check that it’s not undersized. Correct measurements can be found on www.Gibson.com.
• Examine headstock and headstock logo to determine that they match those of authentic Gibson guitars.
• Check to see that all pearl is inlaid.
• Check that Les Paul model script is always in cursive.
• Verify that there’s not a three-screw truss rod cover.
• Check the control and pickup cavities for sloppy routing or wiring.
• Make sure the pickup cavity is not painted black inside.
• Always ask for the Gibson Owner’s Manual and Gibson Warranty Inspection card.
• Check the wiring. If it’s plastic it isn’t a true Gibson.
• When all else fails, contact Gibson Customer Service at

l sometimes I express anger through music and write Lyrics of doing unheard of acts which may be question would I do and really that's the whole beauty IS the Mystery...

But in the end the whole HIGH of it all - IS - the music taken you somewhere or making you think in a positive or even negative way. Making your point across is still way better than not being heard at all or worse yet is to be ignored...

I've had my fair share of drama and that's when I go straight for that note book, Pencil and write all these hateful things of what I would do just like if - I was to be happy or in love. But its more of a release through a Pencil and paper than an actual act. Writing and music anger managements my ass...LOL

One of my songs "Its Not Me" you would think I'd be a dark, gloomy and suicidal person, and yes it was about a very bad experience in my life. But you see that song is really about new life and the rebirth of one's own self worth.

So with that being said... What ever the music takes you is a personal gift to you and will outcome differently to someone else. The Mystery on what the artist was thinking on his writings can sometimes be better left unknown because it takes away from personal mental visual, picture, place or meaning as to what you thought it meant...

The Mystery will always arise... Was it an experience, fantasy, dream, mindless chatter, ect... or just alter ego? Who knows? Those are just a few places to choose from and to escape.

According to the Daily Mail, one of rock and roll’s untold stories will surface next year. I mean it is not often that a true muse shares untold stories after a 40-year old self imposed silence. It looks like the books deals more with Pattie’s marriage to Eric Clapton, but I’m sure it’s filled with previously untold details of all things Beatle. (The John tidbits in the article sounded fascinating. I never knew.) The books looks to be a shocker, and it also looks that few mentioned in it will be seen in a particularly rosy light. But it sounds better the E.C.’s upcoming autobiography.

She has been silent for 40 years. Now tempted by a £1m pay cheque, the world’s most famous rock chick is set to reveal every detail of her abusive marriage to Eric Clapton.

Amid the amphitheatrical splendour of Verona’s Roman arena, Eric Clapton was not a happy man. On stage in front of 15,000 adoring fans at the lavish open-air venue this week, he was plagued by the draining summer heat and a particularly persistent mosquito.

“As he’s become older he gets miserable when it’s too hot,” says a member of the 61-year-old rock star’s entourage. “He was bothered by the flies and his glasses kept steaming up.” Clapton’s misery as he performed his classics Layla and Wonderful Tonight might also have been due, in part at least, to the woman about whom he wrote his two most famous love songs.

Holed up in her 17th-century cottage in the West Sussex countryside, Pattie Boyd, Clapton’s ex-wife and the woman he stole from Beatle George Harrison, is working feverishly on her autobiography.

The book, which will see Boyd finally break her 40-year self-imposed silence over her marriages to two of the biggest music stars of the 20th century, was described to the Mail by a publishing source this week as ‘full and frank’.

In other words, in exchange for her rumoured £950,000 advance, ex-model Pattie will be expected to dish the dirt about the sex, drugs and infidelities in her relationships with both the legends.

And to use the vernacular, 62-year-old Boyd certainly knows where the bodies are buried. Worse still for Clapton, her tome will go head-to-head in a sales war with his own forthcoming (and, it is rumoured, highly sanitised) £3.5 million life story. No wonder the guitar king is feeling the heat.

Pattie’s account of her life with Clapton is sure to tarnish his image as one of rock’s gentlemen. Particularly as, the Mail has learnt, she intends to lay bare the bizarre details of how the singer agreed to swop his own girlfriend for Pattie as a trade-off with George Harrison.

She is also said to be planning to tell the full story about dark rumours that during their nine-year marriage, Clapton, battling an addiction to drink and drugs, was an abusive and violent husband who cheated on her with a string of women because she couldn’t bear him children.

None of which is likely to make comfortable reading for the star — nicknamed Slowhand because of the speed of his hands on the guitar — who has become a father to three young daughters late in life thanks to his happy, five-year marriage to American-born former waitress Melia McEnery, 32 years his junior.

To compound his problems, Pattie’s memoirs come at the same time that another lover, Italian Lori Del Santo, whose four-year-old son with Clapton, Conor, died when he fell from a New York skyscraper, is penning her own version of events, which will allege that Clapton dispatched an aide to persuade her to have an abortion when he discovered she was pregnant.

Hardly surprising, then, that the veteran rocker, who is already worth £130 million, is said by associates to be rueing his decision to accept the payday offered by publishers Random House for his musings on his life and hugely successful career.

“He realises he has opened a can of worms with Pattie and Lori,” a source close to him told the Mail this week. “He is not too concerned about Lori, but he never thought Pattie would reveal the secrets of their marriage.

“He comes out of it pretty badly, but the truth is he should have let sleeping dogs lie and never agreed to do this book. He knows he’s only got himself to blame.” Indeed, friends of Pattie reveal she decided to sign her own publishing deal with Headline Books only because she was angry that Clapton had broken his vow not to speak about their marriage. Already, she has employed Prince Charles’s biographer Penny Junor to help her write it.

Meanwhile Clapton’s publishers are said to be furious over the news that Pattie’s book will go directly up against his own when they both hit the shelves in the autumn of next year. As one who has been researching their lives for several years for my own book on Clapton, I can say without hesitation that Pattie’s is one of rock’s great untold stories. Not only was she the muse for Clapton’s finest work, she inspired first husband George Harrison to pen the beautiful Something for her.

The public school-educated daughter of an RAF pilot, Pattie was a 20-year-old model when she was chosen to make a fleeting appearance in the 1964 Beatles film A Hard Day’s Night. The well-bred trophy girl caught the eye of bus driver’s son Harrison and the couple married in 1966. It was the blonde and toothy Pattie who spawned Harrison’s interest in eastern culture and introduced The Beatles to the Indian mystic the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in 1968.

But it is her description of her relationship with another Beatle, John Lennon, that will be most fascinating. Rumours abound among those who surrounded the group that Lennon and Pattie enjoyed a brief fling during her marriage to George.

What is certainly true is that Lennon shared with his friend Mick Jagger a sexual obsession with Pattie, which he documented in a series of graphic diary entries.

Indeed, the blatant flirting between John and Pattie at a party at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel in December 1968 led to singer Lulu stepping in to remonstrate on behalf of Lennon’s long-suffering wife Cynthia. Not that Harrison, despite his conversion to mysticism, was above the more earthly pleasures himself.

He enjoyed an affair with Ringo Starr’s wife Maureen Starkey during their marriage and his bed became familiar to a rotating band of groupies known as the ‘Apple Scruffs’ because they would hang around outside the group’s Apple Corps headquarters on London’s Savile Row.

But it was Pattie’s relationship with Clapton that was to wreck her marriage to George. She and Harrison met the guitarist, then with Sixties supergroup Cream, at a party in Chelsea in November 1968.

The two men became immediate best friends, but Clapton, who was living with his teenage girlfriend Alice Ormsby-Gore, the daughter of Lord Harlech, fell passionately for the lovely Pattie.

When she rejected his entreaties for her to leave Harrison for him, he wrote the tortured love song Layla for her. Eventually, as George became more and more obsessed with the teachings of his new spiritual guru, Pattie fell into Eric’s arms. They continued their affair behind George’s back, even disappearing for trysts in an upstairs cupboard during candlelit games of hide and seek with an unsuspecting George at his huge Gothic mansion, Friar Park in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.

It was not Pattie’s first affair either. In the early Seventies, Harrison and guitarist Ronnie Wood, who would go on to join the Rolling Stones, negotiated a wife swop, with Pattie escorting Wood on holiday to the Bahamas while George took Ronnie’s then wife Krissy to his rented villa in Portugal.

Harrison finally twigged that Clapton had ‘done it’ with his wife when he arrived at a party at the home of his then manager Robert Stigwood in Stanmore, Middlesex, to see his best friend and Pattie acting like husband and wife. Clapton, who by then was living with model Cathy James, confessed his affair with Pattie to George and told him bluntly that he wanted her for himself. Harrison’s reaction was unexpected. He told Clapton: “Whatever you like, man.” Then added: “You can have her and I’ll have your girlfriend.”

Pattie fled in tears, but finally in 1974 she left George and moved into Clapton’s Italian-style villa Hurtwood Edge in the Surrey stockbroker belt. Astonishingly, the two men remained great friends.

But Clapton’s drinking and drug taking — not to mention his constant philandering — was soon taking its toll on his relationship with Pattie. By the time of their 1979 wedding in Tucson, Arizona, the guitarist was in the midst of a monumental addiction to cocaine. Just days before he asked her to marry him, he had begun a fling under Pattie’s nose with one of her best friends. She constantly forgave his affairs and his drinking sessions, which would start at 8am and last all day. But in 1982 she persuaded the star to check into the Hazelden Foundation drying-out clinic in Minnesota.

Part of his therapy was to read out a questionnaire filled out by Pattie which chronicled the abuse she suffered at his hands while he was in the grip of his addictions. Clapton was forced to admit to his fellow patients that he had beaten her up and forced her to have sex with him.

His behaviour led Pattie into her own battle with the bottle. Hardly surprising, then, that to this day she prefers to forget another song he wrote about her called The Shape You’re In, which chronicles her own alcoholism.

But it was Pattie’s inability to have children that proved the death knell for their marriage. Like Harrison before him, Clapton was keen to start a family, but despite fertility treatment she suffered a series of miscarriages. Meanwhile, Clapton began an affair with studio sound assistant Yvonne Kelly while recording in Montserrat in 1985, and she gave birth to his daughter Ruth.

Pattie was kept in the dark about the baby. But when beautiful television presenter Lori Del Santo, with whom he had begun a tempestuous affair, presented Clapton with a son, Conor, a year later, Pattie moved out. Clapton gave up drink for good, but the couple eventually divorced in 1988.

Pattie has consistently refused big money offers to tell her story about her relationships with the two rock stars, and remained on good terms with George until his death from cancer in 2001. Likewise, she stayed in touch with Clapton after their divorce and even attended the funeral of Conor in 1991.

But friends say she has never fully recovered from his treachery and went into psychotherapy in a bid to come to terms with the collapse of their marriage.

Nor, they say, was she ‘made for life’ by their divorce settlement and is wont to tell friends, who ask her how it feels to have been the inspiration for some of the most touching love songs of all time, that she would have preferred the royalties.
